about ERIK
ERIK has left the family…
it was with sadness and some relief that ERIK has been sold. We hauled her out for an inspection, touched up the anti foul and replaced the anodes while we were at it. There was an issue with delignification around the prop shaft, but the rest of the boat was fine and she passed with … Continue reading
We may have a buyer…
a couple from Bruny Island have had their eye on ERIK for quite a while seems. They have put a holding payment down, and we are sorting out the haul out and survey for two weeks time! Not sure whether to be happy or sad, at the moment.
ERIK is for sale!
Our beloved ERIK is for sale… She’s been described as “the best design for the worst weather” in WoodenBoat magazine, she’s a sister ship to Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s famous SUHALI, she’s been our traveling home for the past eight years. We bought ERIK from her second owner in Port Adelaide, South Australia. We sailed her … Continue reading
Not loving that alarm sound
We waited till midday today, the high tide, before raising anchor in West Arm to set off for Georgetown. We had books to return, groceries to buy, per-ordered cryovacced and frozen meat to pickup from the butcher… You know, things to do! Less than 10 minutes later, the dreaded water alarm cut in… I must … Continue reading
Repairing the dinghy
As regular readers will know, BONNIE, our dinghy, was horribly damaged during our grounding up at Georgetown recently. Sam Hughes is the bosun at the Tamar Yacht Club, upon hearing about our membership with the CYCT, very kindly offered us the use of their shed. Yesterday, at high tide, I rowed BONNIE around with Alex … Continue reading
LPG Regulators

The two stage ones work by having the first stage drop the pressure from the tank to a “domestically” usable pressure, the second stage compensates for atmospheric pressure variations and stops … Continue reading
Category 3 problems
Someone once told me there are three types of problems in the world: Category #3 problems need money to solve. Category #2 problems need time to solve. Category #1 problems need both time and money to solve. Aboard ERIK, we are starting to have a number of Category #3 problems, and some of them are … Continue reading
Still in St. Helens…
Dad came to visit the other day, and it was very nice to see him. He drove three hours up the coast to see us and drop off our collected mail. Lachie was very happy to see the first three of the Inheritance Cycle books we ordered, calling it the “Best day so far”. Dad … Continue reading
Back in Tassie
We are back in Tassie and like any paranoid skipper, the first thing I did was check on my beloved boat. Things were not good. Apparently all y’all have been having some windy weather during our two week absence. ERIK must have been knocked about in some strong gusts and been pitching a bit, because … Continue reading
Engine room, guided tour
In my last post I got the engine room lights working, something my dear wife has been at me for quite some… She even bought the strip lights. Talk about dropping ze hint… Anyway, in that post I have a panoramic stitch together of the engine room. In this post, I thought I’d use that … Continue reading
